Modeling and Performance Analysis with Simulation

This course gives an introduction to simulation techniques. The focus of the course is on discrete event simulation. Simulation is widely used to evaluate systems in general, computer and communication networks in particular. In this course we will emphasize the simulation of communication networks. Some topics of the course are:

  • Model Design

  • Preparation of simulation experiments

  • Input modeling

  • Random numbers and random variates

  • Evaluation of simulation results

  • Simulation packages for network simulation

  • Implementation of a discrete event simulator (simulation kernel)
