The goal of this project is to develop robust tools to provide predictions of musculoskeletal loading by coupling generic forward dynamics multi-body systems with inverse dynamics approaches to be used in partner project C-4 for analyzing patient specific data. Such global models are to be coupled with local finite element descriptions of the joints, which allow for a 3D resolution of menisci, cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments. In a first step, the necessary boundary conditions will be taken directly from the global multibody model. We will then extend this one-way coupling to a complete integration of the local finite element model into the global one, in order to let the overall simulations benefit from the highly resolved joint model.
