Course Description

The research seminar is a central part of the thesis writing process. Attendance is mandatory, and participation will be recorded to ensure consistency.

Time for the Seminar

The seminar dates will be communicated to all students who have successfully completed our admission process. For more information, please review our HCC writing process.

Preparation for the Seminar

To ensure productive sessions, we ask that students come prepared for each seminar:

  • Prepare a Brief Update: Summarize your current progress, any major milestones, and the challenges you are facing.
  • Formulate Questions: Think about specific questions or issues you would like to discuss with the group.
  • Engage with Peers: Be ready to provide constructive feedback on your peers’ work and contribute actively to discussions.

Goals of the Seminar

The seminar is designed to achieve the following goals:

  • Provide a platform where students can share their progress, challenges, and experiences, benefiting from collective insights.
  • Address common questions in a shared setting to make the supervision process more efficient and focused.
  • Encourage students to critically evaluate their own work and their peers' work, thereby improving the overall quality of theses.
  • Build a sense of community among students, encouraging them to learn from and support one another.

Structure of the Seminar

  • Check-In Presentations: Each student will have up to five minutes to present the current status of their thesis. This should include a brief overview of their progress, challenges encountered, and any specific questions they wish to discuss.
  • Question Collection: During the check-in, we will compile questions and challenges raised by students into a shared list.
  • Discussion in Plenum: After the check-in, we will discuss the collected questions as a group.
  • Complex or Time-Intensive Topics: If you have a particularly complex question or topic that requires deeper discussion, you can announce it in advance. These topics will be shared with the group before the seminar, allowing everyone to prepare and contribute to the discussion. Together, we will collaboratively explore possible solutions.
  • Additional Input from the HCC Team: While the seminar is largely student-driven, the HCC team will, when necessary, provide targeted guidance, insights, or resources to help address more challenging questions.
