HCC Team at the HCC Retreat in March 2025

News from Apr 14, 2025

From 19 to 21 March, the HCC research group met for a three-day retreat in Klein-Glien, Brandenburg. The event provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on our goals and team responsibilities and develop resources to support both teaching and research efforts at the HCC.

On Day 1, the focus was on identifying strengths and (re)assigning team responsibilities. The workshop session encouraged team members to share positive feedback concerning each member's individual strengths, promoting a deeper understanding of each other's capabilities and reviewing responsibilities within the team. The outcome of this workshop will be reflected in the new 'Steckbriefe' (personal profiles of our team members) that will soon decorate the hallways of HCC.

Day 2 had two working sessions. First, we reviewed the teaching and organisational processes at HCC. The second was a 'Purpose Tournament' where the team reviewed, discussed, and revised our purpose statement, culminating in the following refined purpose statement:

"We at the HCC aim to contribute to society by addressing challenges that emerge from applying technologies in healthcare through researching meaningful interaction concepts from a human-centered perspective. In our empirical research, we are committed to actively involving people and engaging with their different perspectives to promote participatory and value-based health technology design. We adhere to the principles of open science and seek to improve the interaction with health technologies on a societal and individual level."

Day 3 focused on reserach methodology and resulted in the development of a comprehensive process for both qualitative and quantitative approaches to the thesis. This practical tool will assist future B.Sc. and M.Sc. students writing their theses at HCC.
