On 8 May 2025, at 12:15 PM, Prof. Claudia Müller-Birn will deliver a talk titled "Human-Centered AI in Healthcare: Designing Systems That Are Impactful and Meaningful" as part of the IPA Colloquium at the Technische Universität Berlin.
When: 8 May 2025 12:15 pm Where: H3004 (main building)As artificial intelligence transforms healthcare, its success depends not only on technical accuracy, but also on its ability to collaborate effectively with humans. However, current AI development often prioritizes performance metrics over meaningful interactions, limiting its real-world impact. In this talk, I argue for a human-centered approach to AI system design, emphasizing the role of user interface design in fostering effective human-AI interaction. I will present findings on how reflection prompts guide privacy-aligned medical data donation decisions, and explore how uncertainty representations and guidance shape decision-making in diagnostic scenarios. Finally, I illustrate how participatory design approaches enable the co-design of AI systems that prioritize human values and needs. I hope to show that human-centered AI has the potential to create systems that are not only accurate, but also impactful and meaningful in healthcare.
