Yesterday evening the lecture series "Open Technology for an Open Society" has started with a lecture by Dominik Scholl from Wikimedia Deutschland and Claudia Müller-Birn. With the topic "Free Knowledge for Science and Society - Case Studies and Perspectives" they initiated the event that will continue through the whole semester.

The lecture series is guided by the question to what extent the openness of technology and the openness of a society are mutually dependent. What does open technology mean and can we understand the impact of this openness on society? In the coming weeks other exciting speakers from science and civil society will reflect individual aspects of the subject. The goal is to promote the dialogue between science and civil society in order to unite existing initiatives and interests, and to discuss future issues of our society.

Next week Lorena Jaume-Palasí from Algorithm Watch will speak about the public aspect in this age of algorithms.

The lecture series "Open Technology for an Open Society" takes place every Wednesday from 6-8pm at Freie Universität Berlin, Takustr. 9. It is open to the public and the entrance is free. You can find more information on the website ot4os.imp.fu-berlin.de.
