Introducing Girls to Programming at the Girlsday 2017
News from May 19, 2017
At this years Girls' Day the HCC held a workshop introducing basic programming concepts to girls aged 12 to 15.
We introduced the girls to the visual programming language Scratch as a fun and creative way to learn programming concepts.
In the second part we switched to App-Lab (an IDE developed by Code.org) were the girls could apply their new knowledge to build a whack-a-mole game in Javascript.
The eight participants worked in teams of two. In the end, the girls could take their results with them, using a shared link to their web-app.
We hope by choosing a playful and interactive approach to programming we could inspire them to consider a career in computer science.
