Travel Information

By train

The most convenient connection on Monday (24.02.2020) is this:

Berlin Hbf (tief) leave 10:42  RE 5 to Rostock HBf
Waren (Müritz)  arrive 12:28
Waren (Müritz) leave 12:38 RB 15 to Malchow
Inselstadt Malchow arrive 13:04

The train leaves from track 5 at Berlin HBf. The RE 5 also stops at Berlin Gesundbrunnen (12:48), which may be more convenient if you arrive from Tegel Airport in the morning. Unfortunately, is seems that only tickets for the train from Berlin to Waren can be bought on the Website of Deutsche Bahn (www.bahn.de). The ticket price is 27,00 €. The train from Waren to Malchow can be bought on the train. The price is 4,40 €. An alternative train connection leaves two hours later:

Berlin Hbf (tief) leave 12:42 RE 5 to Rostock HBf
Waren (Müritz) arrive 14:28
Waren (Müritz) leave 14:38 RB 15 to Malchow
Inselstadt Malchow arrive 15:04

The preferred return connection on Friday (28.02.2020) is:

Inselstadt Malchow leave 15:53 RB 15 to Waren
Waren (Müritz) arrive 16:20
Waren (Müritz) leave 17:01 IC 1973 to Dresden
Berlin Hbf (tief) arrive 18:23

The IC 1973 also stops at Berlin Gesundbrunnen at 18:19, which may be more convenient if you need to reach Tegel Airport in the evening. There is also a connection leaving two hours earlier, but it takes longer and arrives at Berlin HBf only at 17:15.

The Quer-Durchs-Land-Ticket might be a good idea for the travel to Malchow when we travel in groups. It is cheaper than booking a ticket to Waren and an extra-ticket to Malchow from two persons on (without BahnCard). Unfortunately, you cannot use IC-trains with it, so for the planned connection from Malchow to Berlin, it does not apply. You can find information about the ticket and book it here. [German website]

Another option is the Brandenburg-Berlin ticket. It costs 33,00 € and is valid for up to 5 people for the first leg of the journey "Berlin -> Waren (Müritz)".  For the second leg "Waren (Müritz) -> Inselstadt Malchow" you can buy a ticket on the train for 4,40 € per Person. NOTE: According to the train operator's website you can pay in cash (try to have small change) or with Maestro/ec (debit) card; NO credit cards. For 2 up to 5 people this is the cheapest way to get *to* Malchow by train.

Flixbus

There is also a FlixBus connection.

On Sunday, 23.02.2020, it leaves at 20:30 from the central bus terminal in Berlin and at 20:50 from Tegel airport and arrives in Malchow at 22:40. On Monday, 24.02.2020, it leaves at 20:15 from the central bus terminal in Berlin and at 20:35 from Tegel airport and arrives in Malchow at 22:25.

On Friday, 28.02.2020, the bus leaves at 07:20 from Malchow and arrives at 09:05 at Tegel airport and at 09:25 at the central bus terminal in Berlin. On Saturday, 29.02.2020, the bus leaves at 07:20 from Malchow and arrives at 09:05 at Tegel airport and at 09:25 at the central bus terminal in Berlin.
