Add good links as you find them, but keep in mind that this list aims at being high-quality rather than comprehensive. In particular, only very few entries should be listed as 'best'.

• http://www.m-w.com : English (dictionary and thesaurus), Merriam-Webster. Includes phonetic transcription and audio(!) for pronounciation. See also Wiktionary and WordNet.
• http://www.wikipedia.org. Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Volunteer-based and of varying quality, but often quite good. Entries available in multiple languages.

• http://www.dmoz.org. Directory Mozilla. 2004-01-21 The volunteer-based newcomer. In many areas much higher quality than Yahoo!.
