Abstract

Mathematical Illustration can be considered the dual to mathematical modelling. Both compare physical and abstract processes, but just as a mathematical model reveals the structure or behaviour of a physical space or process in abstract terms, an illustration reveals the structure or behaviour of abstract ideas in physical form.  In this talk I will discuss some bridges from the abstract world to reveal the structure of algebraic numbers, create models in wood and mathematical sculptures in metal.
