Dynamic Game Theory: Foundations and Applications to Multi-Agent Physical Systems
Abstract: Originally a tool for analyzing economic decision-making, game theory evolved into a mathematical framework for studying systems in which multiple agents interact. Its dynamic extension is a powerful tool for modeling interaction between physical systems such as robots, drones, and autonomous vehicles. As these systems see growing real-world deployment, modeling their interaction became central. This talk first motivates why dynamic game theory is the natural framework for multiagent physical interaction. It then presents the underlying theory and mathematical framework. This includes problem formulation, information structures, and equilibrium concepts for different forms of interaction, and the challenges and advantages of applying game theory to physical systems. Finally, the talk illustrates how this framework can be applied, and why it matters, across application domains such as multi-robot coordination, multi-drone encounters, and autonomous racing.
