Polymorphism: occurs in > 1% of the population
Variation: otherwise

Rough categories are:
  • Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), short insertions/deletions (indels)
  • Structural variation: large insertions/deletions, inversions, segmental duplications
  • Copy number variations
