Letter to "What is …?" speakers

Email content

SUBJECT:

"What is ....?" seminar on [DATE]

BODY:

Dear [NAME],

Thank you so much for agreeing to give a "What is...?" Seminar! Your talk will take place on [DATE], [TIME] s.t. at [LOCATION]

Generally, we ask our speakers to prepare at most a 20-min talk. We have a very casual atmosphere inviting many questions from the audience, so the 20 mins usually ends up becoming around 40 mins. We do ask that the talk be understandable to any math audience. The audience will consist of math graduate students from many different fields. The format of the talk is entirely up to you. We will be providing a blackboard/whiteboard and beamer. Let us know if you need a laptop or laser pointer/remote.

We also ask for a very short abstract for the talk. It can be as short as 2-3 sentences or as long as you like. You can find some examples from talks we've had in the past here:

This abstract we like to include in the invitation email which goes out on the Tuesday or Wednesday before the talk. So please try to send it to us by [TUESDAY BEFORE TALK]. And don't forget to include your title in the form of "What is ....?".

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you again for helping us out!

Sincerely,

[YOUR NAME]
