Does and Don’ts for your Thesis

An incomplete collection of things you should do and must not do

Dos

  • Use a spell checker
  • Cite everything
    • Cite all ideas that are not yours
    • If you think its your idea, do more research. It might be not. …
    • Mark direct quotation, but better explain it in your own words.
  • Use pseudo code for your algorithms
  • Write abstract last
  • Provide a CD with you thesis with files such as:
    • thesis itself as pdf
    • data used
    • results and graphs of evaluation
    • source code
  • Print two sided

Don’ts

  • Add source code in your thesis, but acceptable in appendix.
  • Add sources in your reference list that you haven’t cited.
  • Use Website citations without access date, but better find a paper
