Abstract:
The field of Computational Geometry is devoted to geometric problems
and to finding efficient algorithms for solving them. Given that the
problems of the field are typically concerned with geometric objects
and manipulations of such, it appears natural to visualize the
geometric context of a problem when studying it. This thesis describes
the design and implementation of a framework for the visualization of
algorithms and data structures from computational geometry. This
framework can assist scientists and students in creating useful
visualizations with reduced effort by profiting from the ready to use
components of the system. It also serves as a tool for people
interested in learning about specific algorithms as a good
visualization can be a helpful instrument in understanding complex
problems. For some basic algorithms of the field, animated
visualizations have been created that will be presented as well.

Abstract:
Computational geometry devotes itself to exploring and studying efficient
algorithms of geometry. The common methods of constructing Voronoi
diagrams are the applications of the Voronoi-Delaunay duality and the
Fortune's algorithm. This thesis introduces an applicable procedure to
approximate the pixel-wise generated Voronoi diagrams by cubic B\'ezier
splines. This approach can be utilized not only for ordinary Voronoi
diagrams but also for weighted Voronoi diagrams. The points of Voronoi
edges will be computed based on the characteristics of Voronoi diagrams.
We apply a designed Greedy algorithm and cubic Bezier splines to trace the
Voronoi edges.
One of the difficult points is how to deal with the corners of the Voronoi
diagrams. The corners refer to the positions where the edges join and
split. In ordinary Voronoi diagram, the corners are the vertices of
Voronoi. The vertices can be calculated by computing the circumcenters of
triangles of Delaunay triangulation. However, it is not so easy to obtain
the vertices of the weighted Voronoi diagrams. Some points near the
endpoints of edges might not be correctly calculated. Then some unsharp
corners took shape when the endpoints of the edges in the corner are
directly connected. In the work, the positions of joins and splits in the
plane are firstly recognized. Then the junctions in the positions of joins
and splits of edges are handled by binary search. When the join points or
split points are found, we insert them into the corresponding positions of
the related edges.

Abstract:
Most interesting discrete optimization problems are NP-hard and thus the
existence of algorithms that find optimal solutions efficiently is very
unlikely for these problems. One approach to encounter this is to design
efficient algorithms that find approximate solutions. In this thesis two =
NP-
hard interval scheduling problems are studied. In both the goal is to
schedule
a set of intervals on given machines such that intervals scheduled on
the same
machine do not overlap. Additionally, the machines have a capacity
constraint
in one of the variants, while in the other one an interval can be restric=
ted
to a subset of the machines. They fall into a class of problems called
/separable assignment problems/, for which a framework to obtain
approximation
algorithms, whose guarantees depend on the problem for a single machine,
exists.
On the basis of this framework I will describe a local search approximati=
on
algorithm and one using linear programming with randomized rounding for b=
