Thema der Dissertation:
Model generalization across cell types in computational regulatory genomics
Thema der Disputation:
Transformers in genomics and single cells
Abstract: Transformers have become a central architecture for modeling sequential data, with applications in natural language processing, computer vision, and biology. This lecture introduces the key ideas underlying transformer models, and explains tokenization, embeddings, and the mathematical principles of self-attention. It then shows how these components are combined within a transformer architecture. Finally, the lecture discusses how transformer-based models are being adapted to biological data, with examples from genomic language models and single-cell foundation models.
