Computer Science Minor

= Informatik als Nebenfach / Wahlfach / affiner Bereich

The Institute of Computer Science at FU Berlin offers students the choice of a Computer Science minor to complement their studies. Computer Science as a key discipline is easily combined with any other field of study.

Language requirements

Usually, lectures are given in German, English is the exception. The course language is specified in the course catalog in the course descriptions under the term "Unterrichtssprache/Course language".

Minor in Bachelor's and Master's program

The extend of the minor studies and the offered courses and modules are written down in each program's study and examination regulations.

If the minor covers exactly 30 credit points and Computer Science is the minor of choice, please refer to the model curriculum and study and examination regulations for Computer Science minors (last chapter).

If the minor covers less than 30 credit points, please get study counselling advise before choosing modules and courses. 


Diploma studies with minor

If no other agreement has been made: the minor in Computer Science covers 30 weekly hours per semester (=SWS).


Basic courses

12 SWS, two examinations

  1. Computer Science A (4 lecture hours, 2 exercise hours) and
  2. Computer Science B (4 lecture hours, 2 exercise hours)

End of basic courses

The graded examinations for Computer Science A and B are aquired during studies. The better grade will be part of the minor's preliminary diploma examination.


Main courses

18 SWS, three examinations

  1. Software Internship (P4), block course from mid-February to mid-April 
  2. Two other graded examinations for successful attendance at courses in practical, theoretical or technical informatics. 

End of main courses

The examinations listed under point 2. are aquired during studies. The better grade will be part of the minor's diploma examination. 

An introductory event for students starting their Computer Science studies is held every winter semester on the first day of lecture period, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the auditorium, Takustr. 9.
